A CONTEMPORARY DIALOGUE ON “WHAT ARE OUR TIGERS DOING?”

Environmental Graduates in Himalaya (EGH) successfully organized a contemporary dialogue on “What are our tigers doing?” on 14 September in the presence of renowned personalities in conservation, Mr. Gopal Prakash Bhattarai, Dr. Kanchan Thapa, Mr. Baburam Lamichhane and Dr. Jhamak Bahadur Karki.
The overall programme highlighted on tiger conservation initiatives by DNPWC, WWF, NTNC and other concerned authorities. The speakers also interacted with the participants on the goal of doubling the tiger numbers from 121 in 2009 in Nepal. There were concerning issues raised by the participants on the consequences of doubling tiger numbers and the carrying capacity of national parks to inhabit more tigers which were addressed by the speakers. The speakers elaborated on the causes for the delay in publishing data on tiger census 2018.
The programme concluded that the status of tigers in Nepal has been satisfactory with its own emerging challenges. To address those challenges, the Government of Nepal and the concerned organizations such as WWF Nepal and NTNC are working on to develop strategic plans.
