On April 18, 2025, Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) hosted a collaborative meeting with Dr. Clare Brown, a mountain vegetation expert from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. The session brought together researchers and experts from RHF and Kathmandu University to explore potential partnerships in high-altitude ecological research. Dr. Brown shared her long-standing interest in Himalayan plant communities and her experience studying alpine ecosystems in Scotland. She expressed particular interest in investigating vegetation patterns above the tree line, climate change impacts, indicator species, and the ecological role of peaty soils in Nepal.
RHF researchers presented previous and ongoing projects, including botanical exploration in Far West Nepal, dendrochronology studies, and climate adaptation research through seed bank initiatives. Discussions also touched on future collaborative opportunities, such as studies on carbon sequestration, vegetation reflectivity, and under-researched areas like the Mahabharat range.
The meeting concluded with a mutual interest in pursuing postdoctoral research, knowledge exchange, and exploring funding opportunities in the UK and EU. Dr. Brown offered to assist in upcoming fieldwork on a self-funded basis, highlighting her dedication to advancing ecological research in the Himalayas. This meeting marked a promising step toward international collaboration in mountain biodiversity and climate change research.
