Discussion forum- “Strategies for Communicating Scientific Breakthroughs to a Global Audience”

Event Date :

On September 20th, 2024, the Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) and Environment Graduates in Himalayas (EGH) held a discussion forum titled “Strategies for Communicating Scientific Breakthroughs to a Global Audience” at the RHF office. The event featured guest speaker Mr. Saugat Bolakhe, a scientific journalist based in New York City, and was moderated by Jyoti Khadka, EGH coordinator. At the beginning of the session, formal introduction of the program was given by the moderator.

Mr. Saugat Bolakhe then further explained about the scientific journalism and discussed about the development of seriousness in the work, networking , tips and some examples. He suggested to embrace the opportunities presented by the freelance and gig economy in science writing by first nurturing a passion for science communication rather than targeting major international outlets right away, and to focus on building skills gradually. He said “actively networking, engaging in self-directed learning, exploring available resources, and continuously pitching ideas will be beneficial for science journalism”. Additionally, considering enrolling in free courses or pursuing a relevant degree would be better to further enhance expertise and credibility in the field.

Dr.Dinesh Raj Bhuju , Chair of RHF also gave some insightful suggestions to our participants. Then, the session was followed by the discussion where the questions raised by the participants was answered by our guest speaker. The closing remarks was given by the moderator of the session, Jyoti Khadka.
