Event Date : 2022-07-20

Resources Himalaya Foundation and Environmental Graduates in Himalaya successfully organized Guff-Gaff program with Dr. Gauri Shankar Bhandari, Research Fellow at Resources Himalaya Foundation. Dr. Bhandari gave a presentation on the topic “Learning from the Experiences of Biodiversity Related Field Trips in Nepal and East Asia”. Ms. Saraswati Thapa Chhetri, EGH Coordinator started the program by welcoming the participants, and handed over the platform to the speaker with his short introduction.

Recalling the journey from Master’s degree to till now, Dr. Gauri Shankar Bhandari shared all his experiences, challenges and incidents related to his biodiversity field trips all along Nepal and East Asia. He compared the botanical excursions work procedure of Nepal with his PhD research at South Korea. He shared his several incidents while collecting plant species at different parts of East Asia (Northeast China, Japan and all over the Korea) and emphasized his experience that the researchers at those countries are compared with asset of the nation. Learning from the challenges and some bitter field trip experiences he faced during the excursion, Dr. Bhandari suggested to develop the appropriate team for the research field and to choose the easily available species for the field. The presentation concluded with the important messages that biodiversity field trip must be organized in effective way, selection of target species and the duration of the study determines the difficulty level, local rules needs to be followed as well as respected, and additional precautions need to be taken while embarking for field trip in a foreign country. This sharing was followed by short discussion and formally ended by EGH coordinator, with the vote of thanks and closing remarks.
