Environmental Graduates in Himalaya (EGH) has a long tradition of marking important days. On May 22nd, EGH in collaboration with Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) and Natural History Museum (NHM) had marked up “International Day for Biological Diversity” by organizing an event at Natural History Museum, Swayambhu. The theme of this year was “Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity”. The event was mostly focused on school students from Grade seven to nine along with their teachers. The program started with a welcome note and brief introduction of Natural History Museum by Dr Ishan Gautam, Lecturer. He elaborated the role of Natural History Museum in creating awareness among people and students about the conservation of biodiversity and also disseminated the information that NHM is also playing a major role for policy formulation and regulation. The program was then followed by power-point presentation of Ms. Bandana Adhikari, EGH Coordinator, on the topic entitled “Biodiversity of Nepal”. The presentation started with the introduction and history of Convention on Biological Diversity and further elaboration of biodiversity and its importance. Ms. Adhikari highlighted the status of biodiversity of Nepal where she talked about various levels of biodiversity and threats they have been facing. The presentation ended by showing a short video clip about the biodiversity. Dr. Dharma Raj Dangol, Professor and Chief of NHM, gave a brief speech about the importance of biodiversity and entertained students by asking different questions related to biodiversity. The next presentation was of Jenisha Napit, Lab Assistant, on the topic entitled “Role of NHM in Biodiversity Conservation” where she highlighted the works done by NHM for the conservation of biodiversity and another presentation was of Monica Shrestha, where she highlighted the status of fauna of Nepal. The program ended with the closing remarks and vote of thanks by Dr. Nirmala Pradhan, Professor.
