For the 70th series of PYCF, we had invited Mr. Pradeep Bhattarai, Environment Officer from South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN). The program started with the welcome note and brief introduction of the speaker by Mr Saroj Basnet, EGH coordinator. Mr Bhattarai had his presentation on, “Wildlife Crime: What, How, Why and When?”. He presented on the nature of wildlife crime addressing the gaps, weaknesses, failures, traders and poachers involvement in wildlife trade globally- the supply and demand factors of illegal trade. Mr Bhattarai through his presentation made clear about the wildlife crimes issues in Nepal with the Nepal’s position in the global scenario of wildlife crime control. He also talked about Nepal’s regulations for wildlife crimes, present status and actions against such activities and stressed for an effective working system against wildlife crime. Lastly, he underlined about the need of new strategy including streamlining traders, finding the relationship between religion and conservation and resolving the problem at the end.
The programme ended with the closing remarks from Dr Ramji Bogati, Board Member of Resources Himalaya Foundation, who also handed a token of appreciation to our guest speaker.
