Pralad Yonzon Conservation Forum (PYCF) – Series 131

 Environmental Graduates in the Himalaya (EGH), in collaboration with Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) organized Pralad Yonzon Conservation Forum (PYCF) – Series 131.

For Series 131, we were privileged to have Dr.Madan Sigdel , an Associate Professor at Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Tribhuvan University Kathmandu Nepal. Mr.Sigdel had a presentation on “ Extreme climatic events and associated hazards in Nepal”.

The 131st Session of the Pralad Yonzon Conservation Forum (PYCF) was held online on October 27, 2024.He shared insights from his research on extreme climatic events, addressing both extreme precipitation and drought scenarios, as well as significant precipitation events in Central Nepal that occurred on Ashoj 10 and 11, including the Melamchi flood incident. Dr. Sidgel underscored the importance of early warning systems and the advantages of impact-based forecasting, emphasizing the need to link scientific and engineering approaches with policy to mitigate the effects of extreme climatic events in Nepal. The session concluded with closing remarks from Prakash Sharma, Secretary of RHF.
