Environmental Graduates in Himalaya (EGH) has a long tradition of marking important days. On March 22nd, EGH in collaboration with Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) had marked up “World Water Day 2018” by organizing a Panel Discussion which was moderated by Dr Tista Prasai Joshi, Scientific Officer at Nepal Academy of Science and Technology and the panelist were Dr Ram Devi Tachamo Shah, Research Associate at Resources Himalaya Foundation, Dr Uttam Paudel, Information Management Manager at Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform and Ms Sajal Pradhan, Co-Founder of Best Paani. The program was started with a welcome note by Ms Bandana Adhikari, EGH Coordinator and then was moderated by Dr Joshi. Dr Shah highlighted the importance of water resources and aquatic biodiversity and the need of assessing the ecological status of rivers as the rivers are being polluted more. She added that river does not signify only water but it is an ecosystem. Dr Uttam Paudel discussed about the hazard modeling and emphasized the management of water. He further added the problems related to the scarcity of water after the April earthquake and its effect in reconstruction. He suggested for the natural solutions for hazard management due to water. Ms Sajal Pradhan highlighted the importance of rain water harvesting. She added that there is a need for strong collaboration between academic and non-academic institutions. Eventually, Dr Joshi concluded the discussion by highlighting the importance of safe drinking water and maintaining its quality. The program ended with the vote of thanks and closing remarks by Dr Tej Bahadur Thapa, Board Member, RHF.
