Announcement of the Awardee of Dr Pralad Yonzon Conservation Award 2023
Nayabato, Lalitpur-3: Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) has conferred Dr Pralad Yonzon Conservation Award to Dr Arjun Thapa for the first time. RHF established the Award to recognize and honor individuals and organizations in biodiversity research and conservation in memory of its founder Dr Yonzon, a dedicated wildlife biologist who helped Nepal known to the world through his pioneering works in red panda and other conservation initiatives in the Himalayas.
Awardee Arjun Thapa is a committed young wildlife scientist with a huge potential to contribute to the field of conservation biology. His work at the genetic level has expanded our understanding of the distribution of red pandas in the Himalayas. He founded the Small Mammal Conservation and Research Foundation in 2009 and led research studies in contemporary issues of ecology and conservation. Since 2012, he has uninterrupted publication of research articles in scientific journals and has one already in Science. Dr Thapa earned his PhD from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The award holds a citation and cash prize of NPR 100,000 (Nepali Rupees One Hundred Thousand).
